WESTERN CAPE – The Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape, Lieutenant General (Adv.) Thembisile Patekile, lauded the efforts of police to curb the influx of illicit drugs into the province, after drugs with an estimated street value of R2million were confiscated on the N12 at De Rust in the Garden Route District. On Wednesday, 28 August 2024 at about 07:30, Attaqua K9 members conducted patrols when they noticed a suspicious vehicle on the N12. They pulled over the vehicle at the vehicle check point(VCP) where they proceeded with a search leading to the discovery of 40 mandrax parcels on board, concealed in a compartment at the back of the vehicle. Further inspection of the parcels revealed that it contained 40 000 mandrax tablets. Police confiscated the find and arrested the driver on a charge of dealing in drugs. Western Cape Provincial Detectives (Narcotics Section) are investigating this matter. The 36-year-old man who is in police custody, is expected to appear in court on Friday, 30 August 2024 on the mentioned charge. This arrest and confiscation are in line with the policing priorities of the province who remains dedicated to eradicate drug trafficking along entry and exit routes to the province.
