Media Statement POLOKWANE – The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi, has expressed profound concern regarding the recent escalation of murders within the province. The Provincial Commissioner’s statement comes in response to two separate incidents that occurred during the early hours of Saturday, 30 March 2024, resulting in tragic fatalities. In the first incident, which unfolded in Siloam in the Vhembe District, a 30-year-old man has been apprehended in connection with the murder of a 39-year-old man in Tshiheni village at approximately 01:00. Allegedly, the deceased initiated an attack on the suspect with a panga following a prior altercation. Subsequently, the suspect retreated to his residence, retrieved a knife, and fatally stabbed his assailant. In a separate incident, a 28-year-old woman fell victim to a fatal stabbing by her purported ex-boyfriend near her residence in Leseding, situated in the Waterberg District. Reportedly returning from a local liquor outlet at around 01:00, the woman was attacked by her ex-partner, who inflicted multiple stab wounds before absconding from the scene. Despite being rushed to a nearby clinic, she was pronounced dead upon arrival. The suspect remains at large. “The recent upsurge in murders is deeply disconcerting and entirely unacceptable. We are committed to tirelessly working towards reinstating peace and tranquillity within our communities,” emphasized Lieutenant General Hadebe. Police urge anyone with information related to these crimes to come forward and contact CrimeStop on 08600 10111 or the nearest Police Station or use MySAPS App. The arrested suspect in Siloam will appear before Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court on 02 April 2024, facing a charge of murder.
