Media Statement NELSPRUIT – The Police in Mpumalanga, are working collaboratively with their counterparts from the ProvJOINTS. The team is rallying behind the IEC and is geared up for the National and Provincial Election tomorrow, Wednesday 29 May 2024. During this historic moment, the Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela issued a stern reminder to the men and women in Blue about the South African Police Service’s Code of Conduct. The Code of Conduct is the ethical and professional standard that all SAPS members must adhere to, both on-and-off duty. It includes guidelines on impartiality, neutrality, as well as respect for human rights, fairness, equity and proper use of authority. The residence of Mpumalanga feel safe and have confidence on members of the Police, especially during this important democratic process. The SAPS plays a vital role in ensuring that the 2024 National and Provincial Elections are free, fair and credible. As expected, members of the Police are to be vigilant, proactive and responsive to any incidence that may arise. Members are also reminded to continue working closely with the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), as well as other stakeholders in ensuring a smooth and successful election day. Members of the SAPS would be the most visible representatives of the force during this critical time. The conduct of members will have direct impact on public’s perception about the police and the credibility of the work carried out in support of the IEC mandate. The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela emphasized that any SAPS member who violates the Code of Conduct will face severe consequences as they will be no tolerance for any form of misconduct. “Members are expected to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and ensure that the elections are conducted in a peaceful and conducive environment,” said the General.
