POTCHEFSTROOM – Public Order Police (POP) working together with Tactical Response Team (TRT) and other law enforcement agencies including traffic and Fire Emergency are currently monitoring the protest situation in Ikageng including the N12 road. That after some members of the community barricaded the N12 and internal roads with burning tyres and other objects. Currently, traffic is flowing although motorists are using one of the N12’s dual lanes, i.e Potchefstroom / Klerksdorp. Motorists are therefore to be cautious and comply with the instructions of the law enforcement officials. At this stage, nine suspects have been arrested after being found looting from a shop at informal settlement known as “Serope” It has been noted with concern that despite a plea made to parents to take care and ensure that children are not used in criminal protests, the police spotted some children at Extension 11, putting barricades on the road and pelting vehicles with stones. Police would like to reiterate that criminality will not be condoned and that those commit crime will be dealt with harshly. Ends
