Media Statement WESTERN CAPE – The Hawks’ Asset Forfeiture Investigation in co-operation with the Director of Public Prosecutions’ Asset Forfeiture Unit secured a preservation order which was issued by the Western Cape division of the High Court on 10 May 2024 and received on 04 June 2024. It is reported that during October 2022, members of the Hawk’s South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau based in Bellville conducted a search and seizure operation at a business premises in Kensington. The premises was believed to be a laboratory and a storage facility for drugs and where other illegal activities were conducted. During the search, boxes which contained cocaine, ecstasy tablets, mandrax tablets, cannabis and tik were discovered along with electronic scales, needles and syringes. The street value of the substances found on the premises was R2.4 million. It is further alleged that during the course of the operation, one of the accused attempted to corrupt one of the officers by offering cash to the amount of R173 080. All three accused found on premises were arrested and charged for dealing in drugs. Corruption charge was added on one of accused. The criminal case is ongoing with the next court date being set for 12 June 2024 at Khayelitsha Regional Court for a possible 105A plea agreement. Ends
