POLOKWANE – A 51 year old male Nigerian national Umefulum Chigozi Hendry was found guilty and convicted and sentenced by Polokwane Regional Court on charge of possession of drugs on Friday, 19 April 2024. The court heard that on 12 September 2022, the accused was arrested by members of Provincial Organised Crime Unit, Polokwane policing area at his house, Mamahule village outside Polokwane for possession of drugs. The drugs were valued at R20 000 and a case docket was registered at Polokwane SAPS for further investigation. The docket was assigned to the Investigating Officer Sergeant Mogashoa Lekganyane who worked tirelessly and diligently to built a watertight case against the accused. The accused, after the arrest was granted bail by the Polokwane Regional Court. On Friday, the case was finalized and the accused was found guilty by Polokwane Regional Court and sentenced as follows: He was fined (R30 000) thirty thousand rand or to undergo five years imprisonment in terms of Section 25 act 140/1992 and the drugs are forfeited to the state. The accused was also in terms of Section 105 (2) act 60/2000 declared unfit to possess a firearm.
The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe welcomed the court outcome and further hailed the meticulous investigation carried out by the Investigation Officer as well as other team members.
