Cape Town police uncovered a major weapons stash in Mitchells Plain, seizing 19 firearms along with large amounts of ammunition.
The cache was hidden inside cooler boxes and safes at a house in Lentegeur, a community long troubled by gang-related violence.
Western Cape Police Commissioner Thembisile Patekile said the discovery was part of ongoing operations to clamp down on gangs across the Cape Flats. “This breakthrough is the result of targeted search operations and cordoning off high-risk areas,” he explained.
The bust comes just days after police found seven other firearms in Bishop Lavis, underscoring the scale of illegal weapons circulating in Cape Town.
Authorities believe these seizures will help disrupt criminal networks and bring relief to residents living in fear of gang violence.
