Media Statement POTCHESTROOM – On Tuesday, 6 August 2024, 54-year-old Melusi Dladla’s body was found at about 04:00 by a passer-by in a bushy area at Zinniaville, close to the R510 road in Tlhabane. Emergency Medical and Rescue Services (EMRS) personnel declared him dead on the scene. Initial investigation indicated that Dladla was a community patroller and it is alleged that he was confronting two suspects, when he was shot in the neck. The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt Gen Sello Kwena is deeply saddened by this incident wherein a brave community member was volunteering his time to protect the community. He said that police will continue to work hard to ensure that these perpetrators are brought to book. Furthermore, he requested community members who would like to participate in endeavours to safeguard their communities, to contact their local Community Police Forum (CPF), that have Community in Blue Patrollers, working in cooperation with the police. Moreover he advised community patrollers not to work alone.
