EASTERN CAPE – Three suspects were fatally wounded in a shootout with members of the National Intervention Unit (NIU) in Indwe on Monday evening. The incident occurred at approximately 19:20 when NIU members, traveling from Magwalana Village through Indwe CBD, noticed a suspicious white Toyota Etios with an Eastern Cape registration parked in front of a church on Voortrekker Street. As police approached the stationary vehicle and identified themselves, one of the occupants allegedly opened fire. The members responded, resulting in a shootout that left all three suspects fatally wounded. Two unlicensed firearms and ammunition were recovered at the scene, and the Toyota Etios was confiscated. Police have opened an inquest docket, and the matter has been referred to Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) for further investigation. End
