Media Statement GAUTENG – The police in Katlehong, in collaboration with car tracking companies, have successfully recovered six hijacked stolen vehicles in the Kathorus area over the past two weeks. The recovered vehicles include: Ford Ranger (reported stolen in Benoni), Mercedes Benz SUV (reported hijacked in Katlehong), Double cab Ford Ranger, Kia mini-bakkie, Toyota Etios Cross hatchback, Nissan Tiida hatchback and a motorbike. These successes are attributed to a swift response to a tip-off about a reported stolen vehicle in Benoni. Preliminary investigations reveal that the victims were hijacked at gunpoint kidnapped and dropped in an open field. No arrest has been made yet. Motorists are advised to; • Always lock vehicles, even in motion • Be cautious at intersections • Avoid giving lifts to strangers • Use GPS maps instead of asking strangers for directions.
