Media Statement CAPE TOWN – Members attached to the Anti-Gang Unit operationalized information they have received and proceeded to Hanover Park on Thursday, 14 March 2024, where three suspects were arrested and three firearms were seized. The members conducted searches at identified premises in Ash Close and Blinkwater court where they found and confiscated a three firearms with ammunition respectively. The suspects aged between 26 and 32 were arrested for the unlawful possession of firearms. Furthermore, the members arrested a 32-year-old man on a charge of attempted murder which occurred earlier this month. Once charged, the suspects will make their court appearances in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on the mentioned charges. In an unrelated matter, members of the Maitland Flying Squad were busy with foot patrols in Site B, Khayelitsha, when they noticed three males who acted suspiciously when they saw the members approaching. They started running and whilst in pursuit, the members noticed something falling from the waist of one of the men. Upon further inspection, the members recovered a firearm without a serial number. An investigation into the recovery of the firearm was opened. Ends
