Media Statement NELSPRUIT – It is with great sadness that the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Mpumalanga reports the tragic loss of a Police Constable and three civilians following a head-on collision on the R540 Road between Dullstroom and Belfast on Thursday, 04 July 2024 at around 16:20. Members from the Dullstroom Police Station received a call informing them about the accident involving a marked Police vehicle and a white double cab. Upon arrival at the scene, the members found that the two vehicles had collided head-on. Unfortunately, the 45-year-old Police Constable was certified dead at the scene. Two female occupants and one male occupant from the other vehicle were taken to a nearby hospital, where the two females later succumbed to their injuries and the news that has just been received this afternoon (Friday, 05 July 2024) is that the male occupant has now succumbed to the injuries. The report further outlines that the man and one woman were tourists from the United States of America (USA). The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi, has expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the three victims. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
“This is a tragic loss of life, and our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased,” said the Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General Mkhwanazi.
