Media Statement GAUTENG – Tinyiko Jerry Macevele (33) a police officer who holds a rank of a Sergeant stationed at Kagiso SAPS has been arrested by the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation for corruption. The arrest comes after a complaint was received about Macevele who is an investigating officer in a matter where the complainant was arrested for contravening a protection order in which the matter was later withdrawn in court. The complainant alleges that he approached the officer requesting in writing, proof that the charges against him had been withdrawn as it was required by the complainant’s employer. The officer is alleged to have requested gratification of a R1000 in order to help the complainant with the required proof. On 12 June 2024, the complainant paid the officer a down payment of R500 when he was told by the officer that upon payment of the balance the docket would then be sent to the senior prosecutor for withdrawal.
Macevele was arrested at his place of employment after receiving the outstanding balance from the complainant. Macevele made his first appearance before the Kagiso Magistrates Court on Thursday, 04 July 2024 and the matter was postponed to 11 July 2024 for a formal bail application.
