WESTERN CAPE – The commitment of police members to rid the streets of unlicensed firearms and ammunition resulted in the detention of two males who were found in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition in two separate incidents. Muizenberg Police members executed a search warrant on Monday 23 December 2024 at a residence in Rose Street in Hillview at around 21:00. The search of the entire premises as well as the occupants proved to be successful when they recovered 100 9mm rounds of ammunition. A person of interest who was present during the search could not provide a valid license to be in possession of the ammunition which ultimately led to his detention for the possession of unlicensed ammunition. Meanwhile, Gansbaai police members were busy with crime prevention initiatives on Tuesday 24 December 2024 when they responded to information about a person in possession of a firearm. The members drove down Kano Street, when they saw a man who fitted the description and searched him, resulting in the recovery of a pistol with ammunition. They detained the adult male for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Once charged the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Hermanus and Wynberg Magistrate’s courts on the mentioned charges. Ends
