Media Statement NELSPRUIT – The investigation by the Police is underway following an incident whereby two alleged suspects were fatally shot during a suspected robbery which occurred at Tonga View today, Sunday 09 February 2025 at about 02:00 am. According to a report, Police attended a scene after receiving information about a shooting incident and upon arrival, they found a man with head injuries. The man reported that he was walking alone in Tonga View when he was attacked by two males and got injured in the process. One of them is said to have grabbed him from behind while his accomplice pointed him with a firearm. The man further indicated that he fought back then pulled out his licenced firearm. It was during this time when he reportedly shot the two alleged suspects. The two males sustained some gunshot wounds as a result and were later certified dead by the paramedics. Cartridges were found at the scene and were confiscated for further investigation. The man’s firearm was seized also as part of the ongoing probe by the Police. Meanwhile a replica firearm with cartridges inside were found next to bodies of the deceased persons. During the tour of the investigation, Police confirmed that the firearm found with the man alleged to have been attacked, is registered under him. The man has been detained for now for further investigation and his firearm will undergo ballistic testing. The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr.) Zeph Mkhwanazi has ordered for a thorough investigation into the incident with a hope to get to the bottom of what has really transpired on that day.
