NELSPRUIT – The Police in Kwamhlanga are investigating a case of armed robbery that took place in the early hours of 30 March 2025, at approximately 02h30, during a night prayer service. According to information, it is alleged that members of a certain congregation were attacked and robbed at gunpoint while praying. The congregants reportedly heard a gunshot before the church door was forcibly opened. Three males wearing balaclavas and speaking Sesotho entered the church and demanded cellphones and cash. The suspects also stole an undisclosed amount of cash (offerings) before they fled the scene. The Police urge anyone with information that may assist in arresting the suspects to contact Crime Stop at 08600 10111 or send information via the MySAPS App Alternatively, members of the public can call Detective Lieutenant Colonel Sara Msiza at 079 889 3701. The Acting Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, has expressed his dismay over the incident. The General urged congregants to be vigilant, especially as Easter holidays are close wherein criminals target unsuspecting victims, thereby robbing them of their personal valuables at places of worship.
