Media Statement NORTHERN CAPE – Tuesday, 22 October 2024, the vigilant Upington Stock Theft and Endangered Species Unit Commander, Captain Jakobus Botes, received information about stolen cattle being transported from Upington to Kimberley. The description of the vehicle with the trailer was circulated, and the vehicle matching the description was spotted and intercepted by Groblershoop police. The police recovered and seized 10 cattle with no brand identification marks while three cattle were found dead on the trailer. The estimated value of the cattle is R150 000-00. A Toyota bakkie valued at R120 000-00 and trailer valued R100 000-00 were also seized. Two males, aged 31 and 35, were arrested for possession of suspected stolen property. At this stage, the lawful owner of the cattle is unknown. The suspects is expected to appear in the Groblershoop Magistrste Court on Thursday, 24 October 2024. The police are appealing to livestock owners to mark their livestock to enable identification in the event of theft.
