KIMBERLEY – Operation Vala Umgodi disruptive operations continue to stamp the authority of the state in the Frances Baard District. The multi-disciplinary teams on Monday, 06 January 2025, received information regarding a vehicle traveling on the N8 road. The occupants were allegedly in possession of drugs. The information was operationalised, and the team spotted the identified vehicle en route to Kimberley. The teams tactically intercepted, stopped, and approached the vehicle on the N8 road and conducted a search and found suspected mandrax tablets inside the vehicle. The five occupants in the vehicle, two women both aged 29 and three men aged 33, 36, and 42 years old, were subsequently arrested for possession of suspected drugs. Drugs with an estimated value of R10 000-00, a cellphone as well as the vehicle with an estimated value of R200 000-00 were confiscated. The police remain committed in the fight against illicit mining and other related crimes and encouraged communities to report criminal activities to SAPS Crime Stop number on 08600 10111.
