Media Statement CAPE TOWN – The police in the Western Cape stamped the authority of the State as they continued to carry out their constitutional mandate of ensuring safety and security for the citizens of the province and squeeze the space for criminals. Over the weekend, several firearms were recovered and confiscated. On 16 December 2024 at about 03:00, Delft SAPS members received information of a person in possession a firearm at a premises in Camelia Street, N2 Gateway Delft. Information was operationalised and a male was found at the premises with a firearm with 11 rounds of ammunition in his possession. The 37-year-old man was arrested for the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition. In an unrelated matter, SAPS Kleinvlei Crime Prevention Unit were busy with stop and search actions in Spandau, a gang hotspot area, when they spotted a motorbike with two persons in Swakkop Street. The members stopped the motorbike and found one person with a sling bag. Both persons were searched and a Bernardelli VB .22 calibre pistol and 18 .22 rounds were found in the sling bag. A 27-year-old male was arrested for the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition. On Monday, 16 December 2024, members attached to Anti-Gang Unit were deployed in Kleinvlei area in a bid to quell the ongoing gang violence in the area. The members gathered information regarding a firearm that was hidden at a premises at Glendower Street, Denemere. A rusted LLAMA pistol with seven 9mm short rounds of ammunition were found hidden in the chest of drawers. The firearm was confiscated and booked in as exhibits. An enquiry docket was opened at Kleinvlei SAPS for further investigation. All the firearms will be sent to ballistics for analysis.
