South African Police Service WESTERN CAPE – On Sunday, 23 March 2025, members of Public Order Police were busy with crime combatting operations in Hopland, Saldana Bay, in a bid to quell ongoing gang violence in the area. The members conducted stop and searches in Vanguard Road when they searched an adult male who attempted to evade the police members. He was apprehended when the members found a firearm without a serial number and 11 rounds of ammunition in his possession. He was arrested for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. In an unrelated intervention, members of Public Order Police arrested two males, aged 28 and 37, when they stopped and searched them during a crime prevention operation in Lepelaar Street, Witteklip, Vredenburg on Saturday, 22 March 2025. They were found in possession of an imitation firearm and ten packets containing crystal meth. Furthermore, the members searched another premises in Lepelaar Street, Witteklip, Vredenburg where they arrested a 34-year-old female when they found 50 mandrax tablets and 22 packets containing crystal meth in the bedroom, concealed in an electricity box. The suspect faces a charge for the possession of drugs. The suspects will make their respective court appearances in the Vredenburg Magistrates’ Court once they have been charged.
