Media Statement PARKTOWN – On Wednesday, 24 July 2024, in the Ekurhuleni District, the police successfully conducted Operation Vala Umgodi in Actonville, targeting illegal mining and related crimes in the area. The operation resulted in the arrest of 27 illegal immigrants, one suspect for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, and two suspects for dealing in liquor without a license. The seized goods include 1 Norinco Pistol with ammunition, large quantities of liquor, and various mining equipment and materials such as pendukas, pots, stampers, grinders, drills, welding machines, steel balls, steel plates, oxygen cylinders, electrical motors, bearings, chain hooks, welding cabs, shovels, pickaxe, hose pipes, and welding rods.
