Media Statement FREE STATE – The Lindley police made a gruesome discovery following a terrible smell coming from a certain house and noticed flies coming through the window at Ntha near Lindley because the smell made nearby neighbour’s suspicious. On 31 December 2024 at about 22:00, the police attended the complaint received from the community to inspect what some smell and flies noticed through the window of that house. Upon their arrival, they discovered that there’s person staying in that house but wasn’t sleeping there anymore. The police started looking for the owner of the house around township, and fortunately, they found his car parked outside the gate of the same house. They wanted to gain entry into the house, but the suspect refused to open as the door was locked. The police peeped through one of the windows and noticed a decomposed body lying on the floor covered with a blanket and second one of a minor covered under the blanket. It was established during preliminary investigations that the bodies could be of a family at Mamafubedu near Petrus Steyn. The mother believed to be parent to the deceased girl alleged that her daughter and granddaughter went to Lindley to visit the father of the child on 22 December 2024. That’s the last time she saw both. Both bodies were decomposed beyond recognition. The DNA samples have been obtained from the mother of the deceased to establish as to whether it could be her biological daughter and that of her possible granddaughter. The postmortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death on both deceased persons. The double murder case is under investigation.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Reitz Magistrate court on Thursday, 03 January 2025, facing charges of murder.
