Media Statement VILLIERS – Three men were arrested shortly after they were pulled over with sheep in a minibus taxi near Villiers. The collective efforts of the police, farmers and private security have played a significant role in this success. On 14 August 2024 at about 05:30, police received information about a suspicious minibus taxi possibly involved in stock theft in the area. Members promptly operationalised the information and spotted the vehicle on the N3 highway. While chasing it on the R716 road between Villiers and Oranjeville, the suspects opened the sliding door of the minibus and fired shots at the police vehicle. Members returned fire and the suspects managed to escape. No one was injured during the shootout. Inside the minibus, police recovered 24 sheep with an estimated value of R66 000. Three suspects, aged 24, 25 and 36, were traced and arrested through the close collaboration of farmers and private security. The suspects will appear in the Villiers Magistrate’s Court on 15 August 2024 on charges of attempted murder and possession of stolen property. Ends
