Media Statement MTHATHA – Quick response by Police led to the recovery of liquor and two delivery trucks on Thursday, 06 June 2024 at Misty Mount outside Mthatha. Police were alerted about hijacking of two delivery trucks and security vehicle that were heading to Flagstaff yesterday at about 05:00. According to reports, nine armed suspects hijacked the security vehicle at Mthatha CBD, which was escorting the delivery trucks. Along the way, both trucks were hijacked by suspects using the hijacked security vehicle, while the security guards were tied up and put at the back of the vehicle. During the hijacking, the security guards managed to escape unharmed and alerted the Police. Police members attached to Libode and Tsolo SAPS, Public Order Police and Mthatha Flying Squad spotted the trucks on a gravel road near Misty Mount and suspects were busy offloading and when they saw Police they fled using the security vehicle and others ran to the forest. A shootout ensued between Police and suspects with no injuries and no arrest has been made, and the investigation is underway.
