Media Statement WESTERN CAPE – Prince Alfred Hamlet police detained an adult male for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition on Sunday, 28 July 2024. Members of the Prince Alfred Hamlet Crime Prevention Unit were busy with crime prevention duties in the Varkiesvlei informal settlement when they stopped and searched a male and found him in possession of a .22 Colt pistol. The members asked him for his firearm license or permit, but he could not produce any of the two. They arrested and detained the suspect. He will appear in the Ceres Magistrates’ court once he has been charged. In an unrelated matter members of Rawsonville SAPS arrested an adult male when he was caught with a .38 Special revolver and ammunition. The members executed a search warrant on a farm in Rawsonville on Sunday evening and found the firearm with ammunition in the house. The adult male could not produce a firearm license or permit to possess the firearm. He was arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
The suspect is due to make a court appearance in the Worcester Magistrates’ court once he has been charged.
