WESTERN CAPE – Police members deployed in the Western Cape to maintain law and order recovered firearms and ammunition and in the process detained three suspects in separate incidents Atlantis police members were busy with crime combatting initiatives on Tuesday 24 December 2024 when they pursued information about a firearm being stored at an identified address. The members proceeded to Sacramento Street in Saxonsea and entered the house upon which a search ensued. Their persistence were rewarded when they discovered and confiscated a revolver with ammunition and detained a 25-year-old male for the possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition. Meanwhile Kraaifontein Crime Prevention Unit were busy with patrols in Bharu Street on Wednesday 25 December 2024 when they saw a man with an object in his hand. When the members approached the man, he fled with police members in pursuit. They apprehended and searched him which resulted in the recovery of a 9mm pistol with ammunition and the detention of the 22-year-old man for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. In an unrelated incident police members attached to Operation Shanela conducted stop and search operations on Wednesday 25 December 2024 in Browns Farm when they responded to information of a person dealing in drugs. They operationalised the information at their disposal and tactically approached the home in Dweza Street in Browns Farm. Upon entering the home they searched the premises and the occupants and confiscated 88 sachets filled with methamphetamine and cash. They detained a 27-year-old female for dealing in drugs.
Once charged the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Atlantis, Blue Downs and Athlone Magistrates’s court on the mentioned charges. Ends
