WESTERN CAPE – Four suspects between the ages of 24 and 42 are expected to appear in court on Monday 08 July 2024 on isolated charges ranging between murder, attempted murder, possession of drugs and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. Police members who formed part of an integrated operation deployed in Khayelitsha to combat the ongoing gang violence, were busy with stop and search operations in Site C when they heard the sound of gunshots close to them. The members responded and found an unknown man who sustained gunshot wounds. A female who also sustained injuries was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. They followed up on the information at their disposal and apprehended a 32 year old who fitted the description, searched him and confiscated a licensed 9mm pistol with ammunition and drugs. They detained the man for murder, attempted murder and possession of drugs. In an unrelated intervention Gugulethu police members were busy with crime combating activities on Friday 05 July 2024 when they noticed the driver of a VW Polo driving recklessly. The members instructed the driver of the motor vehicle to stop, who then sped off with police members in pursuit. The driver suddenly stopped the vehicle and pointed a firearm at the police members who took action. The suspects fled and was apprehended and in the process recovered three firearms with ammunition. They detained two males aged 31 and 42 and a female aged 20 on charges of possession unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
Once charged the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Khayelitsha and Athlone Magistrates’ court on the mentioned charges.
