Media Statement CAPE TOWN – Partnership policing proved successful when police officers responded to information on Saturday 25 January 2025, and in the process detained seven suspects for the unlawful possession of abalone whilst one of the seven was also detained for the possession of an imitation firearm. The police members pursued information about a consignment of abalone delivered to an address in Bellville when they approached the identified address near the corners of Old Oak and Frans Conradie Drive and searched the premises. Their search proved successful when they confiscated 72 kg of abalone with an estimated street value of R54 000. They detained seven suspects between the ages of 36 and 60 on a charge of unlawful possession of abalone. One of the suspects who was also found in possession of a blank pistol will also make a court appearance on a charge of possession of an imitation firearm. Once charged, the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearance in the Bellville Magistrates’ court on the mentioned charges. Ends
