Media Statement GARDEN ROUTE DISTRICT – Police confiscated 201 litres of liquor during a clamp down operation against unlicensed liquor outlets. This operation which forms part of ongoing high-density operations has led to the arrest of four suspects who are heading to court. On Friday, 13 September 2024, Oudtshoorn Crime Prevention Unit members operationalised information on illegal activities when they conducted a sting operation at a house at Bontebok Avenue, Bridgeton in Oudtshoorn. The members seized 111 litres of liquor found on the premises. A 34-year-old woman was taken into custody on a charge of dealing in liquor without a licence. Later the same day, the members executed a search and seizure warrant at a house in Thabo Mbeki Square, Bongulethu in Oudtshoorn. The team confiscated 22 bottles (750 ml) of various blends of beer. A 56-year-old man was arrested in connection with the discovery. He faces a charge of dealing in liquor without a licence. Furthermore, in Dysselsdorp, police responded to a tip-off about illegal activities at a house at Belelie Street on Friday, 13 September 2024. The vigilant members confiscated 12 mandrax tablets, 31 bankies of dagga and five beer crates with 750ml bottles. Two occupants, aged 33 and 57, found on the premises, were arrested. They are facing charges of dealing in drugs as well as a charge of dealing liquor without a licence. Those arrested will appear in the Oudtshoorn Magistrate’s Court once charged. In an unrelated matter, On Thursday, 12 September 2024 at about 00:05, the Central Karoo District Team and Flying Squad members conducted a vehicle checkpoint at Donkin Street, Beaufort West, when the vigilant members pulled over a passenger bus which was enroute to Cape Town from Queenstown. A search of the bus led to the discovery and confiscation of 100 kilogram of dagga estimated at R200 000. The origin of the find forms part of an ongoing police probe. These operations are in line with the policing approach of the Western Cape, to eradicate substance abuse which plaque vulnerable communities. Ends
