WESTERN CAPE – Two suspects are expected to make a court appearance following their arrest on Sunday 19 January 2025 when they were found in possession of a substantial quantity of drugs. Police members of Maitland Flying Squad were busy with patrols on the N1 highway when members noticed the driver of a Golf 6 GTI driving recklessly. The members requested the assistance of a patrol vehicle nearby whilst they kept the suspicious vehicle under observation. When the driver of the VW Golf became aware of the presence of the patrol vehicle, he sped of which resulted in a high speed chase. The police members intercepted the motor vehicle near the Sable Road exit. The occupants became restless but were quickly brought under control. The members continued to search the vehicle and the occupants during which they confiscated a consignment of mandrax tablets with an estimated value of R1.5 million. Police detained two males aged 40 and 37, for the possession of drugs. Once charged, the suspects are expected to make their court appearance in the Cape Town Magistrates’ court on the mentioned charges. Ends
