Media Statement CAPE TOWN – An intelligence driven operation by members of Operation Shanela led to the arrest of a 47-year-old male for the unlawful possession of a firearm on Friday, 15 November 2024. The members searched a premises in Notwari Street, Leiden, Delft after they have received information about a firearm at the premises. The K9 Unit explosives detection dog was utilized and reacted positive to a bag behind a freezer. The camping chair bag was taken out from behind the freezer and an AK47 assault rifle was found in the bag. In an unrelated matter, members of Vredenburg Public Order Police, arrested a 25-year-old man for the possession of an imitation firearm and the illegal possession of ammunition. The members were busy with stop and search operations in gang hotspot in Hopland, Saldana Bay, when they searched the male and found the firearm with ammunition in his possession. The suspects are due to make their respective court appearances in the Saldana Bay and Bellville Magistrates’ Courts on Monday, 18 November 2024. Ends
