Police confiscate 47 dangerous weapons and nabbed 466 illegal immigrants amongst 1091 suspects during ongoing festive season operations

POLOKWANE – The members of the South African Police Service jointly with various law enforcement agencies across the Limpopo have confiscated 47 dangerous weapons and nabbed 466 suspects for Contravention of Immigration Act during the ongoing festive season operation that commenced on Monday 23 December until Sunday 29 December 2024.

These operations resulted in a total number of One thousand and ninety one suspects (1091) apprehended for various offenses ranging from (03) car-hijacking, (06) business robbery, (09) murder, (06) attempted murder, (16) rape, (82) assault with grievous bodily harm (GBH), 151 assault common.

Furthermore, (39) individuals were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, (04) burglary residential, (37) malicious damage to property, and (02) for theft of motor vehicle and motor cycle.

In addition, 107,0 litres of alcoholic beverages, 53  ammunitions, R3620-00 cash, 507 counterfeit goods, one cellphone including a laptop were also confiscated.

Police also seized 2,03 Kg of dagga, 5,60 grams of Crystal Meth, 2,0 grams of Nyaope drugs, 35 kg of precious metals, 10073 packets of tobacco products and 04 motor vehicles.

The South African Defence Force (SANDF), Traffic Police, Department of Minerals and Energy, Community Policing Forum (CPF), Youth Desk and Private Security Personnel played a significant role players in the execution of the operations during the roadblocks identified at hotspot areas, Vehicle Control Points (VCP), stop and searches.

Moreover, tracing of wanted suspects, inspections at licensed liquor premises, second hand dealers, scrapyards, compliance of private security companies and firearm dealers, informal businesses such as spaza shops and farms.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe hailed the multidisciplinary teams efforts that led to the scores of suspects being arrested and for ensuring the safety of Limpopo communities during the ongoing festive season.
