Media Statement BLOEMFONTEIN – Weekly high-density deployment operations Operation Shanela are in full swing in Mangaung Metro. Briefing was given for crime intelligence driven actions across the District on Friday, 26 July 2024. Colonel Edward Kruger instructed the joined parade, where the Department of Home Affairs collaborated with the South African Police Service to execute various operational concepts with focus on stop and searches, to intercept suspects with breaking implements to prevent cable theft, theft out of motor vehicle and burglaries; arrest suspects and seize illegal/ prohibited firearms and ammunition as well as Illicit drugs. The purpose of policing actions will also be directed at preventing distribution of contraband goods and enforce National Road Traffic Act 93/96 and arrest undocumented persons. Members of Tactical Response Team received and operationalised intelligence in Mangaung Police Station precinct. A Silver Ford Ranger with three (3) occupants was identified and searched in Maphisa Road, Phahameng near Bloemfontein. The police team busted the three (3) suspects; two (2) males aged 36 and 50, together with 26 year old in possession of 576 star-etched Mandrax tablets. The street value of the seized drugs is estimated at R32 000.00. A case docket of Possession of drugs was opened and the suspects detained in police custody. The motor vehicle used for drug trafficking was also booked in Evidence Management System.
Policing actions continued in Kagisanong Police Station area and six (6) undocumented persons were arrested. Two (2) drivers were arrested for driving motor vehicle whilst under the influence of intoxicating substance in terms of National Road Traffic Act 93/94. All suspects will appear in Bloemfontein Magistrate Court soon.
