POLOKWANE – As the intensified Operation Vala Umgodi across Limpopo Province continues, four suspects were apprehended for illegal mining of sand at Saselemani Policing area. Other three suspects were arrested for contravention of the Immigration Act and fraud at Selwane, Lulekani Policing area, on Monday, 02 March 2025. According to information, the members conducted a disruptive operation at Botsoleni Village in Luvuvhu River at Saselemani Policing area, whereby four suspects aged between 22 and 27 were spotted busy loading sand in a truck. Upon approaching them, the suspects failed to produce a permit to mine the sand. They were then arrested on the spot. The following items were seized during the arrest: * 1x white truck * 1x pickaxe * 4x shovels Meanwhile, three suspects aged between 24 and 39 were arrested for contravention of the Immigration Act, and one of the suspects was found in possession of a fraudulent identity document. A charge of fraud was added against him at Tzaneen in Mopani District. Moreover, Police confiscated an abandoned hammer, pickaxe, and a shovel including a variety of items at the identified illegal mining sites in Dwaalboom in Waterberg District and in Westenburg, Capricorn Districts. The suspects will soon appear before the local Magistrate’s Court. Ends
