NELSPRUIT – The Police in Komatipoort arrested three suspects, aged between 52 and 56. Amongst the apprehended suspects, two are Law Enforcers and one is a former SANDF member. The three were nabbed on allegations of attempted murder. They were cornered at Mjejane (Hectospruit) yesterday, Friday 21 March 2025. According to a report, approximately nine (09) individuals, armed with pangas, rocks, and other objects entered a certain residential place and found a victim (45), thereby causing havoc and damaging her house. The complainant is said to have recognized the two law enforcers working at Mbombela Municipality. One law enforcer allegedly pointed the victim with a firearm, threatening to kill her. The group then reportedly forced the female victim inside a bakkie whilst still pointed with a firearm. At that moment, it is further said that one of the suspects, also a law enforcer, grabbed the firearm from his colleague and shot her. The female victim sustained some injuries on her right hand. The matter was reported to the Police whereby an attempted murder case was opened. A probe was conducted by the Police, leading to the arrest of three suspects. During their arrest, two firearms were confiscated from the possession of one suspect. An investigation thus far revealed that one of the weapons is a state firearm. Meanwhile, the other one is a privately owned firearm that is licensed. The other six suspects are still at large, and Police urge anyone with information on their whereabouts to call the Crime Stop number at 08600 10111 or send information via MYSAPSAPP All received information will be treated as confidential, and callers may opt to remain anonymous. Both firearms have been confiscated for further investigation, and the victim was taken to the hospital for medical treatment and is currently recovering. The suspects are expected to appear at the Komatipoort Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 24 March 2025, facing charges of attempted murder and contravention of a Protection Order. The Police cannot rule out the possibility of adding more charges against the suspects as the investigation continues.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga Major General Dr Zeph Mkhwanazi has strongly condemned the incident and the alleged action by the law enforcers. The General further emphasized that no one is above the law, and all who commits crime should know that they will be brought to book.
