Media Statement NELSPRUIT – The Police in Kanyamazane arrested a 23-year-old man for the alleged murder of a 17-year-old girl. According to information, the family last saw their daughter in the morning of Friday, 14 March 2025 at about 05:45, when she was on her way to catch a bus going to school. At around 17:30 on that Friday, Police received a complaint of an inquest at Extension 16, Kanyamazane. On their arrival, Police found the suspect who pretended as a complainant and he directed the members to a room where the lifeless body of the victim was discovered. The man further informed police members that the room belongs to his brother and knew nothing on what has happened. The victim’s body was covered with a duvet cover, still in school uniform. Shockingly, there was a rope around her neck and the other piece of rope hanging from the roof. The circumstances surrounding her death is still under investigation by the Police however the probe thus far convinced members that the suspect is fingered in this case hence he was apprehended then charged for murder. The suspect is expected to appear at Kanyamazane District Court on Monday, 17 March 2025 facing the said charge. The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi has strongly condemned the sad killing of the young girl who was a learner with promising future ahead of her. The General further commended the Police for swiftly arresting the suspect. Ends
