POTCHEFSTROOM – Diligent investigations by the Bojanala sub-district 1 (Brits) detectives, Hartbeespoortdam detectives and community members, led to the arrest of three suspects between the agesnof 22-37. This came after the body of a 34-year-old man was allegedly found dead in the bushes near Xanadu Estate in Hartbeespoortdam on Wednesday, 16 April 2025, late in the afternoon. According to information received, a male person, aged 21, was passing from Xanadu road with his uncle, when he noticed a lady (34) coming from the bush, who wanted to board a taxi that was parked next to the road near the estate. He recognized this woman as part of a group, who allegedly robbed him the previous week on Tuesday, 8 April 2025. The 21-year-old alleged that he was robbed with knives, while he was on his way to a nearby college to drop off sport equipment. He was allegedly robbed of many soccer balls, his glasses and a jacket. His vehicle, a Volkswagen Polo, was later found abandoned in the nearby bushes. After intercepting the women, they called a neighbour, who works for a local security company for assistance, who after checking in the nearby bushes, discovered the body of the 34-year-old man, at the same spot where the victim’s car was allegedly found the previous week. Police were informed about this gruesome discovery at about 20:00 in the evening. Further investigations led the police to Brazaville Section in Atteridgeville in Gauteng, where three suspects (a woman and two men) were arrested. Initial investigations revealed that the woman, who was allegedly working as a “lady of the night”, would work together with the men to rob potential clients. During the arrests, police confiscated numerous cell phones and other items including the sport equipment, robbed from the 21-year-old. The Trio, aged between 22 and 35, were apprehended and charged with murder and robbery. They are expected to appear before the Brits Magistrates Court on Tuesday, 22 April 2025. Investigation into this matter continues.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Patrick Asaneng applauded the team for their collaboration that led to this success. He encouraged community members and security companies to continue to work with the police in the fight against crime.
