POLOKWANE – In an effort to dismantle illegal mining activities, the multi-disciplinary forces of Operation Vala Umgodi in Limpopo province, arrested four suspects for illegal mining of sand at N’wamitwa, in Letsitele and two undocumented foreign nationals in Mopani district. Whereas, two other undocumented foreign nationals were nabbed at Waterberg District. The operation also saw variety of items being confiscated at Capricorn District. In Mopani, four suspects aged between 24 and 42 were arrested for illegal mining of sand, after the suspects were found mining illegally at an area identified as an illegal mining site in N’wamitwa, Letsitele policing area. On separate incident at the area, two suspects aged 21 and 22 were also arrested. During the arrest, Police confiscated items such as shovels, pickaxe, and a red UD truck. Furthermore, two other suspects aged 39 and 47 were arrested at Mahwelereng in Waterberg District, after the team found them without passports during the stop and search duties. In Capricorn, Police confiscated three shovels and one pickaxe at Madikoto, Nobody Village, at illegal mining site, in Mankweng Policing area. The suspects will appear before the local Magistrate’s Court soon. The Police investigations continue. Ends
