POTCHEFSTROOM – A case of missing person was registered at Mooinooi police station after a 19 year-old Lerato Molalosi was reported missing. According to information, Moalosi and her boyfriend arrived in the early hours of Sunday morning, 2 February 2025, at her place in Modikwane, in Modderspruit, Mooinooi, close to Brits. They were about to enter the house, when two suspects grabbed Lerato and disappeared, leaving her boyfriend behind. The boyfriend sought help from the local community and the police, but the victim was nowhere to be found. The family later received a phone call, demanding ransom for Lerato’ safe return. Sadly, her naked body was discovered later the same day at around 11:00 in bushes at Majakaneng, next to the N4 road, about 1km from where she was kidnapped. A thorough investigation led Mooinooi Detectives, supported by the Bojanala Sub-District 1 Crime Intelligence and Brits Trio Task Team to the identification and arrest of two suspects on Friday, 14 February 2025. Police seized amongst others, blood stained clothes, cell phone bank card, and Identity Document at the address of one of the suspects. The duo, aged 29 and 30, is expected to appear before the Brits Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 17 February 2024, for kidnapping, rape and murder
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of North West, Major General Patrick Asaneng is saddened by the cruel act and pointed out that police will continue to work hard to ensure that those violate the vulnerable groups that include women and children, are dealt with harshly. The General also thanked the team members for their collaborative efforts that resulted in the breakthrough.
