NELSPRUIT – The Police in Bushbuckridge arrested a 26-year-old suspect for possession of an unlicensed firearm with ammunition after tip-off from community members. According to information, on 26 December 2024 around 04h00, the suspect was playing snooker with other people at a certain tavern in Violetbank. An argument is said to have ensued between two people but a certain patron at the tavern intervened and calmed them. Things seemed resolved until the suspect reportedly pulled out a firearm and shot the victim before he vanished into thin air. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Meanwhile Police Investigators began with their probe and received information on his whereabouts in Acornhoek. Police wasted no time but swiftly acted and cornered him whilst busy performing some traditional rituals. He was apprehended this morning 27 December 2024. It was during his arrest when Police recovered a firearm with about seventeen (17) live ammunition. The suspect was arrested for unlawful possession of a firearm with ammunition as well as for attempted murder. The male suspect is expected to appear at the Bushbuckridge Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 30 December 2024. The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi has commended members for a sterling work done whilst also thanking community members for their continuous commitment to work collaborately with the Police. “Proliferation of firearms remains a challenge that we are dealing with. Mostly, firearms are used in the commission of violent crimes. We are glad that a firearm has been recovered,” said the General. Ends
