NELSPRUIT – The Police arrested a 32-year-old male suspect during an Intelligence-Driven Operation conducted today, 17 April 2025. This operation was a coordinated effort involving the Provincial Head Office’s Organised Crime Investigation (PHO OCI), the Provincial Head Office (PHO), and the Anti-Gang Unit. The operation was instituted following credible information received from concerned members of the public regarding a suspect in possession of electrical detonator explosives within the Badplaas Policing area. Acting swiftly on this information, various units within the Police were able to identify and locate the suspect in Amsterdam. Upon spotting the individual carrying a school bag, the astute members stopped him then conducted a thorough search, resulting in a significant discovery of eight (08) orange and one (01) white electrical detonators, which were subsequently seized. The suspect was charged with possession of explosives, and he is expected to appear at the Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 17 April 2025, facing the said charges.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, welcomed the arrest, stating, “This operation exemplifies our commitment to ensuring the safety and security of our communities. The swift action taken by our members demonstrates the effectiveness of collaboration and intelligence-sharing. We are also exploring potential connections between this suspect and other similar cases, which could further enhance our efforts in combating crime in the province”.
