Media Statement CAPE TOWN – On Wednesday, 13 March 2024, members attached to the Delft Crime Prevention Unit performed crime prevention duties in Symphony Way which is a hotspot area for robberies and shooting incidents when they received a complaint about a group of men that are robbing people in the area. They responded to the complaint and upon arrival noticed a person fleeing from them upon which the members gave chase. The members managed to arrest the suspect after they found a firearm with ammunition in his possession after they searched him. The suspect faces a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition. He will appear in the Bellville Magistrates’ court on Friday. In an unrelated intervention, members of the Mitchell’s Plain Crime Prevention Unit were busy with stop and search operations in Chimney Street when they searched a 31-year-old man and found a firearm with ammunition in his possession. The suspect was unable to produce a firearm license and was subsequently arrested for the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition. He will appear in the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrate’ Court once charged. Ends
