Media Statement CAPE TOWN – The determination to rid the streets of Delft of the illegal possession firearms from the hands of criminals landed a 35-year-old male behind bars during stop and search operations in the Delft policing precinct today. Members of the Delft Crime Prevention Unit were busy with stop and search operations when they stopped and searched a suspicious looking male who acted nervously when the police members approached. They searched him and found a firearm with ammunition and mandrax tablets in his possession. The suspect faces charges for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and possession of drugs He will appear in the Bellville Magistrates’ court on Friday, 15 March 2024 on the mentioned charges. In an unrelated matter, members of the Anti-Gang Unit arrested a 35-year-old man for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition when they responded to information they have gathered about a firearm that is kept at premises in Boundary Road, Strand on Tuesday 12 March 2024. Upon entering the premises, the suspect started to run but was swiftly apprehended and found in possession of firearm with ammunition. The suspect will appear in the Strand Magistrate’s Court tomorrow. Ends
