Media Statement WESTERN CAPE – The vigilance by members of Nyanga SAPS led to the arrest of a suspect when he was caught with a firearm without a license in his possession. On Wednesday evening at about 21:40, the members were busy with crime prevention duties in New Eisleben Road, Nyanga when they noticed an unknown man running on the opposite side of the road. Following their instinct the members chased after the man and searched him. A 9mm pistol with ammunition was found in his possession. They arrested the adult male for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. In an unrelated matter, members of Delft SAPS arrested a 20-year-old man when he was caught with a revolver without a serial number in his possession. The members were busy with crime prevention duties in Roosendal Avenue, Roosendal, Delft, when the male saw the police vehicle and started running. The members gave chase, apprehended the male, searched him and found the firearm with ammunition in his possession. He faces charges for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
The suspects will appear in the Athlone and Bellville Magistrates’ courts on Friday on the mentioned charges
