Media Statement WESTERN CAPE – Efforts to curb extortion in the Western Cape yield success when police members arrested a suspect for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition earlier today.
Members of the Overberg District Task Team received information about a man who is busy extorting people in Siyoni Street, Kleinmond and a description of the suspect was given. The members followed up the information and when they approached the suspect fitting the description, he pointed them with the firearm but was swiftly disarmed and arrested. The 9mm unlicensed pistol was confiscated. The 34-year-old suspect face charges for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, and will appear in the Hermanus Magistrates’ court once he has been charged.
