POLOKWANE – A massive manhunt for four unknown suspects has been activated by the police in Mphephu precinct under Vhembe District following a malicious damage to property and robbery with a firearm incident that took place at Tshituni Thembaluvhilo, Mandis Pub during the early hours of Tuesday, 16 April 2024. It is alleged that a 46-year-old male victim was conducting his routine guard duties as a Security Officer when four unknown males unexpectedly entered the premises while covering their faces with balaclavas and masks. One suspect produced a firearm and tied the victim with a rope before being taken to a toilet with one suspect guarding him. Suddenly, the victim was burned with fire on the neck and robbed off his Nokia and Samsung cellphones together with an undisclosed amount of money. Afterwards, the suspects broke a spotlight and surveillance camera with stones and proceeded to cut an ATM door with the intention to damage the safe and rob the money. Unfortunately, the suspects did not succeed and subsequently took an inverter that was inside the ATM machine and fled the scene on foot while leaving behind a gas, 2 litre water bottle, pick and cutting torch they allegedly brought at the crime scene. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were speaking in Zulu and Sesotho languages and gained entry by climbing the wall and cutting a security razor wire. The Police have since opened a case of malicious damage to property and robbery with a firearm.
