A 45-year-old man is expected to appear in the Phuthaditjhaba Magistrate’s Court tomorrow on a charge of murder, following the death of his 41-year-old wife, whose body was discovered by her son.
The incident occurred on Thursday, 20 June 2025, at approximately 16:00, at a house in Riverside, Phuthaditjhaba. Police were alerted to a possible murder, and upon arrival, were met by the deceased’s son, who led officers to the bathroom where the woman’s lifeless body was found in a bathtub. She had a visible deep open wound to the head.
The son, who does not reside at the home, stated that he had come to visit his mother and upon finding the house locked, forced entry through the kitchen door. Inside, he discovered signs of a violent altercation, including a broken mirror, bloodstains on the walls and running water from the bathroom. Upon finding his mother unresponsive in the bathtub, he alerted a neighbour, who contacted the police.
The victim’s husband, who was not at the scene, later contacted police and disclosed his location. He was arrested shortly afterwards. The alleged murder weapon was recovered and has been confiscated by police.
The suspect remains in custody and will appear in the Phuthaditjhaba Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 23 June 2025.
