POLOKWANE – Phalaborwa Regional Court sentenced a 34-year-old man, Alfred Mulaudzi, to ten years imprisonment for illegal mining, and his accomplice aged 50 was sentenced five years of Wholly suspension. The sentence was passed on 20 June 2024. During court trials, it was found that the accused, together with another male, were caught by mine security in Gravelotte performing illegal mining activities on 21 September 2022. Police were summoned to the scene and arrested two suspects. They were both charged on a charge of illegal mining. The docket was transferred to Mopani District Economic Essential Infrastructure Task Team and was assigned to Detective Sergeant Bongani Tebogo Mabasa for further investigations. Subsequent to court proceedings, the accused Mutodi Simbarashe aged 50 was sentenced to five years, wholly suspension of not committing similar offenses. Whereas, accused no 2, Alfred Mulaudzi, aged 34, was sentenced to ten years imprisonment with no option of fine. The Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo SAPS Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has welcomed the sentencing and praised the investigating officer and everyone who participated in the case. Ends
