Kimberley – The Philipstown Magistrates Court handed down a 15 year prison sentence to Katrina Lumkwana on Thursday, 06 March 2025. On Tuesday, 21 May 2024, the 38-year-old accused stabbed her partner Freek Witbooi in the stomach, which led to the victim’s hospitalization. The accused was arrested for attempted murder and later charged with murder after the victim succumbed to his injuries in hospital on Saturday, 08 June 2024. The Northern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola and her management team applauded the investigating officer, Detective Constable Johnny Nell and the State Prosecutor for their collaborative work in ensuring that justice is served on perpetrators of gender based violence and femicide.
