Media Statement NORTHERN CAPE – As Women’s Month nears conclusion, detectives, together with prosecutors, continue to make inroads by security hefty sentences for GBVF related crimes. The Acting Provincial Commissioner in the Northern Cape, Major General Luntu Ngubelanga welcomes the life imprisonment sentence handed down by the De Aar Regional Court to 39-year-old murder accused, Ettiene Kula also known as “Lielie”. The court heard that on Wednesday, 06 December 2023 at about 18:00 in Petrusville, the accused stabbed his 27-year-old girlfriend, Delia Smile in the chest with a knife and fled the scene and instructed one of the witnesses to throw the knife away. The police were alerted and attended the scene, as well as the Emergency Medical personnel who declared the victim deceased on the scene. The suspect was traced and arrested the same day by the shift members, and bail was successfully opposed by the investigating officer. The accused was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment, and the court also declared him unfit to possess a firearm.
SAPS Provincial and District Management applauded both Detective Constable Johnny Nell of Petrusville Detective Unit for the meticulous investigation and the De Aar Regional Court Prosecutor for securing the life sentence and ensuring justice for the victim.
